Historism
|
The expression Historism describes a style of the end of the 19th century, in which artists referred to older styles and imitated them. Different from Classicism, in the Historism period, it was not only tried to copy the classic antique style but forms of other époques which had then been acknowledged as equivalent were imitated. In Historism, the Romantic style had a big influence, which helped develop a sense for the historical roots.
